National Launching Workshop of the Capacity Building for BioTrade Project and the BioTrade Green Economy Study in Namibia

Windhoek, Namibia, 24 Aug 2010

To launch the Capacity Building for BioTrade (CBBT) project in Namibia and inaugurate the BioTrade Green Economy Study, a national launching workshop was held on 24 August 2010 in Windhoek, Namibia. The purpose of the workshop was to present the draft of the study, as developed by Integrated Environmental Consultants Namibia (IECN), and cull feedback from national and international stakeholders. The objectives of the CBBT project were also presented to gather input on objectives, timelines and activities. In addition to presentations by IECN and CBTF, the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and the Centre for Research, Information and Action in Africa Southern African - Development and Consulting (CRIAA SA-DC), also project partners, shared their work on biotrade.

The workshop was attended by 21 participants, including representatives from Namibian universities, the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI), the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources (MFMR), several NGOs, German Technical Co-operation Projects (GTZ), the private sector, and the Millennium Challenge Account (MCA) initiative. Discussions focused on the definition of biotrade and the scope of the study in Namibia.
