Nepal, 17 Sept 2010
The International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD), in collaboration with the German Technical Co-operation Agency (GTZ), held the launching workshop of the Biotrade Green Economy Study in Nepal on 17 September 2010. The objective of the workshop was to bring together government agencies, non-governmental organisations and private companies to discuss biotrade and gather relevant data for further conducting research. ICIMOD is leading the study in Nepal under the UNEP-UNCTAD CBTF Capacity Building for BioTrade (CBBT) project. The study will cover the role biotrade plays in transitioning to a Green Economy and address issues related to economic development, conservation and poverty reduction within a Green Economy context.
The workshop was attended by over 25 participants from various government agencies, NGOs, research institutes, and the private sector. Discussions covered the study’s focus, the definition of biotrade in Nepal and various weaknesses and strengths of different biotrade sectors.
