East Africa Policy Workshop on Organic Agriculture

Nairobi, Kenya, 11 December 2006

The workshop is being organized in direct response to the expressed needs of ministries of agriculture of Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.

The aim of the workshop is to facilitate the policy development processes in the three countries, which are at different stages of OA policy development. The East Africa Organic Policy Workshop will provide a platform for dialogue among key public and private sector actors currently involved in developing policies to promote the production and export of organic agricultural products in East Africa.

Initial findings of the integrated assessment projects, which are focused on analyzing environmental, social and economic impacts of different policy options for OA sector, will be presented at the workshop. In addition, case studies from different developing countries, where OA policies have been successful in promoting the sector, will be shared. A few observers from other African countries will enrich the discussion.
