Biotrade: A Business Unusual for Partnerships, Profits and Sustainability
Lima, Peru, 21 Sept 2010
Under the Capacity Building for Biotrade Project (CBBT), the UNEP-UNCTAD Capacity Building Task Force on Trade, Environment and Development, in collaboration with the GTZ office in Peru and the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (MINCETUR), organised a series of events on 20-21 September 2010 in Lima, Peru. The three separate events brought together stakeholders from different backgrounds to discuss the business of biotrade and related policy and donor support. These events corresponded with the PeruNatura Fair at Expoalimentaria, which took place later in the week, on 22-24 September 2010.
On 21st September 2010, 15:00 – 19:00, a roundtable on Biotrade: A Business Unusual for Partnerships, Profits and Sustainability, showcased how investing in biotrade makes economic sense, provides opportunities for partnership and can be a catalyst for wealth creation, especially for the poor. By bringing together major investors and businesspeople with representatives of the public sector, the workshop aimed to raise awareness of the benefits of investing in biotrade, inspire public-private partnership and investment, and ultimately, encourage sustainable development.
