Bridging the Gap on Biotrade: Enhancing Synergies between Development Assistance and National Priorities

Lima, Peru, 20 Sept 2010

Under the Capacity Building for Biotrade Project (CBBT), the UNEP-UNCTAD Capacity Building Task Force on Trade, Environment and Development, in collaboration with the GTZ office in Peru and the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (MINCETUR), organised a series of events on 20-21 September 2010 in Lima, Peru. The three separate events brought together stakeholders from different backgrounds to discuss the business of biotrade and related policy and donor support. These events corresponded with the PeruNatura Fair at Expoalimentaria, which took place later in the week, on 22-24 September 2010.

The first CBBT event, was held on 20 September from 09:00 – 13:00, entitled: Bridging the Gap on Biotrade: Enhancing Synergies between Development Assistance and National Priorities.

While in general, donor projects support national priorities related to biotrade, it is important to have a platform for further strengthening mutual supportiveness. At this roundtable, donors and public policymakers exchanged ideas, matched mutual interests, and shared experiences related to biotrade. The objective was to spur new ideas for partnership, projects and policy.
