Ugandan National Stakeholder Consultation on draft organic policy

Kampala, Uganda, 27 Aug2009

As a result of the Ethiopian Organic Forum: Public Private Partnership on July 9, 2009 organized by the Ethiopian Association of Oganic Agriculture in collaboration with the Ethiopian Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MoARD) and the UNEP-UNCTAD CBTF, CBTF was approached by the Ethiopian Goverment with the request for help to develop a project proposal.

Therefore, UNEP-UNCTAD CBTF sent an expert to Ethiopia who met with different key stakeholder of the Ethiopian organic agriculture sector and came up with a concept note for a project proposal as well as policy recommendations based on the CBTF study "Best Practices for Organic Policy - What Developing Country Governments Can Do to Promote the Organic Agriculture Sector". The draft proposal as well as the policy recommendations were presented on 6 October 2009 at the Ethiopian Stakeholder Meeting at the Intercontinental Hotel in Addis Ababa.
